008. [Text / Action for Goldenrod Rocket Base]

[TEXT]

Is there a way to make yourself stop thinking about someone that obviously isn't worth your time?

I feel like I've done everything I can to deal with the situation, so it's not like business is unfinished. And before you suggest forgiveness or something stupid like that, it isn't an option after what this person did, so don't bother. I just can't let this go for whatever reason and it's getting inconvenient and stupid and I'd rather not deal with it anymore, but deciding that you're not going to think about something is a waste of time for obvious reasons.

I don't care if I never stop hating them. I just want to stop thinking about it, and if I could cut out whatever part of my brain is responsible for that, I would.

[ACTION]

[Alfred hasn't been staying in the Goldenrod base for some time, having grown rather bored with it in terms of living arrangements (and besides, having his own place was far more fun in terms of interior decorating, if by "fun" we all understand he means that he's been taking time to make the place look like he may in fact be possessed by demons and is building some sort of really childish lair of the damned); that doesn't mean he won't come back once in a while, however, especially when he's in the mood to destroy things that aren't acceptable to destroy in public.

Like his Pinsir. He's enjoying setting that on fire today.

There's no immediately obvious point to it, nor is it proper training. It's just general "I want to set this thing on fire and make it scream like hell, so I will," and he knows better than to think this will be acceptable anywhere outside. So he's in one of the training arenas, just using his Rapidash, Jubilee, to burn the hell out of it.

He wastes a couple of revives on it so he can repeat the experience; he's spent the entire process in silence, though he's had his hand clamped over his mouth almost the entire time and he's shaking a bit, and after a while his eyes had slid closed. He sort of hates himself for all of that - he's better than that and he knows it - but after a while it stops bothering him and starts feeling cathartic, and when he opens his eyes again they're bright but he's generally okay, and he recalls both the wretched thing he's been burning and Jubilee, and he's pretty sure he can get on with his day now that whatever that was has been taken care of.]

Become less pathetic.

You're a noble, right? It shouldn't be too hard for you. 。◕‿◕。

[Well, someone's a hot mess of emotions, isn't he?

All things considered, it'd be impossible to ignore the shrieking of that poor damn oversized bug...thing, even without the ability to tune in to its mental anguish on top of it. But even if it wasn't a nigh-impossible task, Schuldig probably would've ended up watching anyway, just because there's something undeniably fascinating in a sort of aquarium-like way about a grown man quivering and grabbing his mouth as he just burns and burns and burns some thing that, by all rules of this world they're in, ought to be under his protection and care — and more importantly, given the fact that it's a five-foot bug with a fucking guillotine on its head, that he's doing it to something that could snap him in half in about two seconds flat, and yet it's just sitting there screaming and taking it.

This, Schuldig reflects, is the real beauty of the human condition. It's poetry in motion.

(The Pokemon he's brought down to the arena with him today, however, are understandably anxious and apprehensive as hell about all this — hopefully the intent way their trainer is watching the spectacle doesn't mean he's getting ideas and taking notes.)

And so, once things die down (morbid pun intended), Schuldig cocks his head and applauds lightly, more to attract the pyromaniac's attention than anything else.]

You look like you could use a cigarette after that one.

[Jimmy why are you doing this think about how it went last time.]

Maybe you can try to find something to get your mind off them? Some big project or something that takes a lot of time and energy, so afterwards you're too tired or too busy to be really thinking about a whole lot.

[Kato had decided to leave the labs behind today and get in a bit of training while things were going slowly; he purses his lips slightly when he hears that the field is already occupied - not that he expected any different, but he's not exactly feeling sociable today. However, once he sets eyes on what is actually happening on there, he starts feeling a little more chatty. Approaching Alfred, he stands on the side of the field, arms crossed and turning a Pokeball in his fingers. How very curious.]

I take it you're not very impressed with that creature.

[Ugh, is there any way to get it to stop making that horrid noise?]

Is this someone that is here or someone you know from your own world that isn't?

If revenge is getting boring or impossible I'd say that a new strategy is in order. Sometimes a person has to bide his time in order to find a new opportunity. That or enough time passes that you're not quite so fixated on whoever is bothering you.

Plans can take years to come to fruition, but in my experience it's worthwhile

I wish I had an answer to that. It's something I've been struggling with as well, though replace "someone" with "something."

The way I've been countering it is to focus on something else, but it's not always going to work. I try to focus on one thing to the exclusion of everything else, but that's not exactly the healthiest way to handle something like this. It works sometimes, but there has to be a better way.

If you find a better answer, I'd be interested in hearing it.
