001. [Voice / Action for Goldenrod Rocket Base]

[PRE-POST WHATNOT]

[Alfred has been here for a few days by now, getting used to the place; those who have been attending the mandatory training may or may not have noticed the newcomer who's been there with them. His clothes are military-styled, a bit too ornate for the location, and he hasn't been wearing the uniform; however, it's as though he's been making a concentrated effort to not be sociable. For the most part, it works - he's generally silent unless addressed, and any attempts to address him will get an eyeroll and brief but pointed answers if anyone tries - and so for the last handful of days, he's managed to conceal how utterly unnerving this is for him; so many people in this area with no idea how they got there, so many dragged here from different worlds, and if anything the streaming feeds over the device aren't helping.

He'd gone upstairs to the outside once, just to make sure that he's not being fed the most ridiculous lies ever about this being a different world entirely, and he's not sure whether the knowledge that he isn't is welcome or not. However, with the outside world came civilization and stores and the ability to purchase things at said stores; he hadn't been around this many people in years, but none of them really mattered in the scheme of things. Right? Of course they didn't.

Only one person mattered for the most part, and it seemed she had been brought to join him here; as long as he had her, everything else was secondary.]

[VOICE]

[There's a new signal broadcasting tonight; no video, but a decidedly feminine voice coming over the feed, soft but firm and to-the-point in tone.]

While I've realized that there's likely no chance of going home - not anytime soon - the opportunities this place has offered are completely subpar.

Are there any opportunities for advancement or employment in this world that don't involve hideous amounts of travel or retail work? I'm horribly overqualified for the latter, and the former...

Let's say I'd prefer to avoid it; it's been such a long time since I've done anything of the sort.

[...Charming.]

[ACTION]

[It's been a little while since we've had a newcomer to the Rocket science labs; there's certainly a new one in there today - a woman in the standard-issued Rocket uniform, being followed around by a massive and rather...unstealthy metal ant. Most of her long blonde hair is tied back simply to keep it out of her face, though she's got bangs brushing low over her forehead and light makeup dusted over her features; she seems to be annoyed by that incredibly short and mildly kicky skirt when she moves, one of her hands sweeping down as though to ensure the skirt is staying down, but other than that she seems pretty comfortable in her surroundings. She's not questioning what she's been told to do for now, even if data entry is still more than a little below her; after all, access to the database is definitely a good thing.

As such, there's not much entering of data getting done today; she's a bit enthralled by the reports of what happened in July of 2012. There's nothing too extensive in there, but it's just extensive enough...

Of course, she can be found elsewhere in the base as well, as the day wears on; she's a bit hard to miss, what with the metal ant rather loudly gashunking along next to her. She seems generally in control, though it's evident from the way that she pauses once in a while, bringing a gloved hand up in front of her mouth as though contemplating something and looking down the hallways before seeming to think better of exploring them, that she's...more than a little lost, um.

New people, pretty much.]

[Oh excuse you - ]

Don't you dare talk to me like that - I'll decide what's a silly question and what isn't, you simpering little man.

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-09-14 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Denzel cringes at her sharp words and Growlite gives a short low growl at Alfred, as a warning.]

Anymore questions? [Crocker's voice sounding a tad shakey.]
dresstoimpress: (pic#4951213)

[personal profile] dresstoimpress 2013-09-14 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, that's just going to get a hissing sound out of that ant, causing her to look down at it because holy damn, it's a hunk of metal and it breathes. What in the good hell does she do with this knowledge.]

Do you have a name? I have no idea what to call you.

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-09-14 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Growlithe continues to show her teeth] Geraldine! Geraldine! Stop this!

I don't want you getting injured again. [The Growlithe looks up at Denzel, she doesn't agree, however obeys and watches that ant closely, and huffs out a tiny spark of fire from her mouth.]

Denzel Crocker, and you?

[Her gaze just flicks down to that dog for a moment; she's pretty sure that fire could mess up that ant of hers seven ways from Sunday.

She also can't really say she cares.]

My name is Alexia Ashford.

[There's no "it's a pleasure" where one should probably be, but such is life.]

This world is built around making these creatures fight, isn't it? Why don't we let them, if they're so determined? Perhaps there are lessons to be learned.

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-09-15 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Crocker's lip snarls, he only asked her because she asked him. Judging by what she was looking at, she was another scientist. How did the man end up running into all of them?]

Well, yes that's the functionally of this univer –

[Looking down at Growlithe.] Well, it would increase your level... but - Are you're sure you're going to be alright?

[Looking Growlithe in the eyes, after all people weren’t trustful, that only leaves animals. Growlithe replies with a confident growl.]

Alright, let's win this! Go Geraldine!

[Growl growl growlithe! Crocker is positive he'll win if she is new than her Pokemon level is lower, right?]

[personal profile] dresstoimpress 2013-09-15 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, for the love of - ]

Surely you can't possibly intend to do this here - have some respect for your craft.

[I mean, he is in the lab and all. Surely he's a scientist himself, right? Right.

Either way, she gets up, turning to look at him and tugging down the hem of that hideously short skirt as she does so.]

There are training rooms nearby; it would make more sense to do it there, hm?

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-09-17 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Respect for what craft? Ah, let me answer that for you. You mean the craft that made of mocky of myself back home?

[Whether Crocker is a scientist or not is debatable, on one had the man surely has the mechanical engineering and computers down. However, the man uses his talent to counter, control and manipulate things like magic and does work. If this is a science Crocker does, it's surely on the obscure branch of folklore or parapsychology. However, the man surely does not consider himself to be scientist.]

[Replies in bitter distaste] I suppose so.
dresstoimpress: (pic#4951214)

[personal profile] dresstoimpress 2013-09-17 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're in disgrace among the scientific community, then -

[She cuts herself off before she continues, however; bites it back. The Ashfords are likewise in disgrace, though it's doubtful that it's anywhere near for the same reason.]

Oh, never mind. Come on, then.

[Let's just go locate one of those training rooms, shall we? Victor will be just kind of...gashunking along after her obediently; she's not going to be checking to see if Crocker likewise follows, but really, it doesn't matter to her either way. The man agreed to a battle, after all; senseless to assume he won't.]

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-09-19 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. [Denzel remarks bitterly.] I'm a Crackpot... OK??! [There's definite vermon admitting from Crocker's tone when he says, ok.]

[Denzel waits for her to make a smudge remark to Denzel, however nothing appears to be coming. Meanwhile, the glare from his lessens and becomes more curious, though his body posture remainds showing lack of confidence and follows her wondering more what's going on with that last unfinished statement than interested in battling but he is a man of his word. Crocker whistles for Growlithe to follow.]

[...Well, really, part of the reason she's not going to be snide about it is due to the fact that it's too easy. Honestly, given a statement like that is like being invited to shoot fish in a barrel, except she's been given a panzer instead of a rifle and the fish are already dead.

Either way, more information isn't forthcoming for the time being, so either you're going to have to wait or ask. She finds that training room with...reasonably little difficulty, though a few moments of obvious deliberation do occur when she's unsure of what hallway she's even supposed to be taking at the moment; eventually, however, she does find it, and she's more than pleased to stand on one side of it, Victor beside her.]

I take it you're going to be using that thing, then?

[Yes, Geraldine, she is talking about you.]

Sorry for the late!

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-09-25 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Denzel and Geraldine follow and when Alfred is very apparently going into the wrong room, Crocker begins to say something but is interrupted with her change of direction. Denzel and Geraldine find their way opposite Victor and Alfred.]

Hey! Don't you speak to her in that in manner!

[Geraldine is only slightly offended.]

What do you have against - POKEMON! [Crocker slightly body twitches and Geraldine looks concern about her master.
dresstoimpress: (pic#4951212)

No problem, it happens!

[personal profile] dresstoimpress 2013-09-25 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
[She arches an eyebrow at that, tipping her head up a little; she doesn't seem inclined to dignify that with too much of an answer.]

Nothing in particular - Sand-Attack, Victor.

[...and since fire is 4x supereffective against Victor, clearly lowering Geraldine's accuracy is going to be the first priority.]

thank you <3

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-09-25 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Then why do - [However Crocker didn't have a chance to finish, why do you treat Pokemon like dirt? Surely people is completely understand but why animals? Geradline's accuracy was decreased.]

GERADLINE! ROAR!
dresstoimpress: (pic#4951213)

[personal profile] dresstoimpress 2013-09-25 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Well...okay, then, she's not entirely sure why he's so determined to switch her Pokémon out, but -

...oh.

Since the only other one she has on her at the moment is a level nine Spinarak, that...might make some sense, yes. Goddamn it, Cassius, what do you even do - ]

Poison Sting, then!

[...That's sort of useless and the chance of actually poisoning the target is equally pathetic, but at least it does something.]

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-09-30 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Just don't put logic into anything this man does, just don't. Probably the best rule of the thumb. Prehaps, he wanted to expose the other Pokemon she had so he could plan ahead since he does know Rockets get two Pokemon or maybe he's just being crazy. You never know.

Geraldine yelps in pain at having been poison stung, and a skull and cross bones appear for a moment abover her head.]

NO!

[This will slowly eat away at her health.]

EMBER ATTACK!

[Geraldine lungs and there's fire everywhere.]
dresstoimpress: (pic#4951214)

[personal profile] dresstoimpress 2013-10-04 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
[...lovely. That's just lovely.

Well, Cassius is going to fall easily just because ahahahahahaha level 9 very flammable spider; if she's bothered at all by it, it's not present across her expression. She just watches the poor thing burn until it faints with the sort of mild curiosity usually reserved for finding a scratch on one's car and wondering how it got there before recalling it to its ball and sending Victor back out there.

Steel being as susceptible to fire as it is, she doesn't really expect the Durant to fare any better, but she'd expected that much going in.]

Bite it, Victor.

[Getting up in the Growlithe's face is likely not the best of ideas, but she kind of has to work with what she has.]

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-10-06 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Denzel watches Cassius fall and return to the Pokeball however the man shows concern that for each passing moment Growlithe is suffering from being poisoned. This greatly bothers the man, considering who his Growithe is named after and Alfred is also starting to make Denzel twitch in the face because she’s not showing any emotion.]

DON’T YOU HAVE ANY FEELINGS?!

[Meanwhile Growlithe isn’t able to avoid being bitten as she’s trying to shake off the being poison and Growlithe yelps in pain, which redirects Crocker’s attention.]

Geraldine! NO! Ember attack! [Come on Geraldine, hang in there. Hang in there.]
dresstoimpress: (pic#4951213)

[personal profile] dresstoimpress 2013-10-07 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well. The closed proximity there (along with the fact that Durants are fucking useless against fire let me tell you) is more than enough to cause the most hideous metallic shrieking noise as Victor goes down as well.

Again, her expression doesn't flicker, though there's a bit of an odd look in her eyes as she watches; intrigued, in some sick way. So it goes, really.

She knows when she's lost, however, and when people are becoming...upset with her tendencies; she'll recall Victor without drawing it out too much.]

...So you win.

[The sky is blue, the grass is green, you just set my pets on fire and killed them.

You know.

Business as usual.]

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-10-12 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah ha! I win! You're going to have to work on your strategy.

[Though Crocker knew very well he had type advantage with Victor. However had not been sure with the other Pokemon, knowing Rockets get two Pokemon and he did have to say, that spider type was cool. Denzel makes a mental note to capture one himself. Geraldine on the other hand was whimpering in pain. She was still poisoned.]

GERALDINE! [Crocker catches her as she begins to pass out. Rubbing her fur, Denzel remarks.] Hang in there, hang in there. There should be an antidote around here somewhere.

[Crocker has also learned that Pokemon don't die, they just pass out. So battling them and wining isn't so horrible. The man tries to lift his fluffy dog up but finds that he's having a hard time with that and only mananges to pick up the dog halfway. Pokemon to Crocker after all where his friends, and the only friends he has, because unlike people they don't judge you and why he's always like animals.. Outside of cats.]

[personal profile] dresstoimpress 2013-10-13 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it had nothing to do with strategy; really, if you couldn't defeat me, that would have said more about you than it would me.

[That said, though, she's kind of scrutinizing what he's doing with Geraldine over there; she cocks her head slightly to the side, clearly watching but not moving to assist.]

Put her back in the capsule you got her in, if you have to carry her somewhere now - if nothing else, it'll make it easier.

[She folds her hands in front of her; still watching, still not moving to do anything about what's going on in front of her, but definitely thinking.]

Who is Geraldine? [The question comes suddenly, without prelude.] Obviously your dog, but is she named that for a reason?

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-10-13 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
SHUT UP! [Crocker snaps at over at Alfred . Denzel wasn't expecting assistance, he's learned not to count on that and when his mind freaks out in panic or just in his usual crazy, common sense appears to delude the man anyways, like he was born without that. ]

Capsule? Oh, right! The Pokeball! [Why didn't he think of that? Oh, right common sense and grabbing the Pokeball off his belt commands the Growlithe to return.]

Hang in there. [Denzel tells the Pokeball. The question catches Crocker off guard and sort of jumps out of his skin.] That's just plain and silly my Pokem - [Crocker himself off and is silent and states dryly] And this is any of your business if she's named after someone, how? [That's when he notices what he just did, darn it!]
LOOK IT’S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS WHO MY POKEMON IS NAMED AFTER OK?! [Crocker getting defensive before letting out a deep heart ache groan.]
dresstoimpress: (pic#4951214)

[personal profile] dresstoimpress 2013-10-13 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
And what did I tell you about trying to boss me about, you pigheaded fool?

[The words are cold, sharp but strangely blunted in affect, as though that sort of responsive outburst is second nature by now; she settles easily enough, though, going back to the...whatever the hell is going on with regards to the naming scheme there.]

And I asked because it's a strange name for a pet. [She pauses for a moment. Tips her head a bit.] And it's a bit rude to name a dog after, say, your wife, don't you think?

[personal profile] crackpotcrocker 2013-10-13 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Denzel's body cringes and the man stoop over. She was succeeding in making Denzel scared, which to some degree isn't that hard to do. The man was like a turtle going back into its shell before peeking out of his 'shell' and sharply remarking.]

Well, it's none of your business where that name came - [Crocker stops himself short, like he was just taken an invisible punch in the stomach is expressed in his face. Geraldine had been Crocker's girlfriend but they had broken up in college before he did ever get to ask her to marry Denzel and even if Geraldine the person didn't love Crocker anymore, Denzel still had feelings for Geraldine the person.]

...We never got married... [Crocker manages to choke out before busting into tears. Excuse him while Crocker wants to throw up and die now.]

[That...honestly will just get some eyerolling at best before she tosses her head a bit, flicking a couple of errant locks of hair back over her shoulder where they belong before she moves to begin making her exit; after all, she has a couple of "dead" pets to revive, because apparently that's a thing that happens here.

However, that doesn't mean she hasn't a few words to throw out there before she goes.]

You're a grown man; it would be in your best interests to start acting like one.

[And with that, she's gone.]
