009. [Text/Action for Goldenrod Rocket Base]

[TEXT]

So it seems that the running theme on the network this summer is "We're all terrible people and/or have no idea how to handle ourselves in groups." Good to know, I suppose.

Since I'm particularly bored but otherwise actually am having a very good day today (thank you very much), maybe all of you can regale me with some of that optimism you seem to like so much. Or you can be needlessly pessimistic, I don't really care. I just want to hear stories.

So why don't you talk about something you've accomplished since you've been here? I don't care how important it is in the scheme of things. Just something you've gotten done.

Since I'm sure somebody is going to ask for my reasoning in asking, I'm coming up on a year of being here, though I still have some time yet. I suppose this sort of thing is on my mind.

[ACTION]

[Alfred spends so much time in one of the training arenas in the base, just beating the living hell out of his Pokémon, that he might as well move in.

Today he has a couple of more recent additions to his team with him; the first and most obvious is the snarling shark he's got lunging in his general direction. For once, he doesn't seem to mind that the thing is having a go at him; rather to the contrary, he's laughing in a way that isn't exactly comforting, the sound alternating between strange high-pitched giggling and something that's decidedly less annoying but also decidedly less controlled. Fortunately Sharpedos are all speed and no angling maneuverability, so it's fairly easy to get out of the way of it once it charges him; it takes a while for the thing to correct, turn around and have at him again. It's like fighting an incredibly fast sunfish in that regard, really; sharp angles just leave it smacking its face into what's in front of it.

Of course, there comes the occasional moment where the thing corners him, because there are only so many places to go in this room before Alfred finds himself backed up against a sharp angle formed by the joins in the walls; that's when the second Pokémon he's got with him comes into play. He has a Remoraid that he's been keeping close by him, just kind of doing the usual water-type hoverdance by his side; once he finds himself needing it, it doesn't take long for him to...

...dear god, Alfred, what are you doing. Other than "grabbing the fish and bracing it up against you like a rifle, and promptly Aurora Beaming that Sharpedo in the face," that is, because that's exactly what he's doing.

In other words, he's got a gunfish and an irrationally pissed off shark, and he's having himself a grand time. Good lord.]

[Upon discovering the training arena (a little while coming, considering most of his exploring has been isolated to his own room, the science department, and the area from the Pokemon Center to the Game Corner and back), Nagi has found it incredibly useful for giving him a pretty consistent place to train with his few Pokemon in private, particularly his Abra and Ralts, who happen to be with him today. The others come occasionally, but his focus is more on the Psychics, for reasons unknown to everyone but him, apparently.

Any hopes of finding the arena he usually frequents empty are quickly dashed when he rounds the corner to the sound of laughing, low growls, and dull impacts. With his Abra perched on his shoulder and his Ralts curled up in his arms, he eventually peers in and-

...

He hovers there at the entrance, watching as the Sharpedo trying to hurl itself at the man there is being blasted right in the snout with a well placed Aurora Beam from a Remoraid that he is... holding.

And as he watches, his immediate thoughts go to the fact that this looks like exactly something Schuldig would do with his Pokemon, and very likely has probably tried something similar at least once by now. The Ralts shivers a little and hides her face in his shirt, causing him to sigh as he steps in finally, though he's going to wait for a break in all of that action before attempting to cross the room, there.]

[Nagi is already a quarter of the way to his destination to some...other part of the room by the time Alfred hails him, prompting him to stop short and look over. With the Sharpedo gone, he can get a better look at its trainer and already that tone has his own response guarded, yet sounding just as uninterested as usual.]

No. Am I interrupting something?

[He says flatly, glancing over to the Remoraid Alfred is still hanging on to before looking back up at him.

Clearly you're...rather busy here, Alfred, but it looks more like you're screwing around than it does actually training your Pokemon, there.]

Who wants to know?

[Fine, if you're going to be like that.]
unkinder: (☆ and I don't know what it is I'll find)

Valuable enough.

[Nagi's gaze narrows briefly as he shifts where he stands to face Alfred a bit more directly, instead of talking at him out of the corner of his mouth.

His eyes fall again onto the Remoraid after a short pause.]

Do you always manhandle your Pokemon in the pursuit of training them?

[No, it wasn't.

Nagi sighs, glancing down when the Ralts still in his arms finally chances a look at who he's talking to, not quite as unnerved now that the Sharpedo is gone.]

It's the concern of someone curious to know why on earth...that would ever be necessary or appropriate during battle.

Clearly.

[The way you were giggling like a school girl is telling enough.]
